Official: Russia's annual inflation slows down to 5.5% Monday

MOSCOW, Apr 22 (PRIME) -- Russia's annual inflation slowed down to 5.5% as of Monday from 5.8% at the end of March, Deputy Economic Development Minister Polina Kryuchkova told reporters on Thursday.

"In our estimate, annual inflation slowed down to 5.5% as of April 19 from 5.8% at the end of March," Kryuchkova said. "We expect that the long-term measures will make an additional restrictive effect on the price situation: the grain damper is about to be formed, the sunflower oil and sunflower seed damper works are at an active stage."

The ministry estimates the annual consumer price growth in April at 5.5–5.6%.

Kryuchkova separately said that the systemic measures implemented by the government to control food prices decreased price volatility and prevented a 6% inflation at the peak in March.
